Well, chapter twenty-two certainly was a lulu wasn't it?
I want to apologize for the amount of time it took, again, to produce the chapter. But, of course, perfection does take time.
That chapter begins, rather crudely, with Michael fondling the bosom of his young lover. enticing her to come spend the day with him. Which Vylette seems to have no other choice but to agree to. I won't much up the blog with a photo of her nightgown, as there is not picture, I simply made it up.
Michael's blue suit, though, does have a picture:
I follow so many gent's clothing blogs for the suits it ridiculous.
His brooch also does exist.
I'm very particular about dressing the Jacksons.
Sometime later, Michael and Vylette are driving into town, discussing the Depression, although neither looks to have been affected by it. Vylette's ensemble came from 2 different pictures:
The dress is modeled after this one, seen on Gloria Swanson, but I omitted the sleeves and frankly 20s hat. I also made the color a dark ivory, in step with this hat:
I built the whole outfit around this hat!
Once in town, Michael jots off to see Dr. Meraux about mediucine, while Vylette goes to secure groceries.
In the store, she crosses willing and eager Wallis Pelant.
She was cleaning so I added a scarf to her hair.
The two girls share an exchange, which, thanks to Michael's butting in, results with the little whore coming to pay Vylette a visit, much to her horror, as no decent person would accept Wallis anywhere. (I know its slut-shaming, but it's 1931. Just for the record, I grew up in the 90s and was warned about girls like her.)
Over at Jackson Manor, Vylette is still salty about Wallis be invited into the best home in the town--showing a bit of elitism, which does not set well with Michael, whom takes up for Wallis, suggesting that Vylette could be a positive influence on her.
Whether or not Wallis with fly right remains to be seen, as I haven't fully decided what to do with her yet. But that's all a party of the writing and creative process.
Michael then, not wanting to have an argument, switches gears and intead confides in Vylette about their finances and before its over, Vylette is a very wealthy young lady, bein presented with a stingray checkbook--
This is what stingray looks like, as I created the personalized book myself--
which contained a starting sum of one hundred thousand dollars. Vylette was a thousandaire, and would become a millionaire once married.
Somehow, Vylette us talked into purchasing useful gifts for her parents, once she declared such a sum to be frivolous!
Kathleen is set to recieve new church frocks, and for the good old doctor:
Here is the Caddy that was purchased for Vylette's father. I keep it a stately black, as the doctor is conservative and will work with the vehicle, even if the interior IS velvet. And the price of 6700 dollars is relatively close, from the estimates I took looking at vintage car ads. Once my father bought a car for 25 dollars! But it was a Ford. I can only imagine how this will make tongues wag in town!
The tender scene is broken up by Adelaide who announces Wallis' arrival, making it clear she loathes her. Adelaide's plea to Michael is partially based on the speech Mammy yelled at Scarlett about wanting to eat at the Wilkes' barbecue in Gone with the Wind. (Since Adelaide is based physically on Hattie McDaniel.)
“Ef you doan care ‘bout how folks talks ‘bout dis fainbly, Ah does,” she rumbled.
Of course, I couldn't a vernacular like that to save my life! Almost makes me happy that car hit Margaret Mitchell, because Black people do not speak that way!
But I digress...
Michael gets hot over being scolded like a child by the help, and swiftly reminds Adelaide of her position, to which she falls quiet, not wanting to find herself unemployed, with a Depression on!
Vylette gives Michael an earful, then vacates to play host to a tramp.
Wallis is awed by the home and friendly, bawdily bragging she had hooked Jermaine, much to Vylette's dismay.
She had dazzled the latest Jackson import so well, that after their very first meeting, Jermaine was out buying her clothes and had invited her to the events in New Orleans. Vylette beat it and alerted Michael to the situation, disrupting everything, as Jermaine had promised to escort Hannah Povah, likely making an enemy with the worst person in the Parish.
And that wraps up the chapter and story thus far. Chapter 23 is being written, and boy will it sizzle and pop. Trust me....TRUST ME!
Thank you for reading!!!
